What Is Comprehensive Car Insurance?

For the most part, when searching for Texas car insurance, your quote is going to be for collision coverage only.  This is not necessarily a bad thing because most claims are for damages caused by collision incidents and it costs extra to cover other types of losses.

Comprehensive Car Insurance

Comprehensive car insurance is available to cover incidents that aren’t necessarily tied to a collision.  In fact, this coverage is often referred to as Other Than Collision (OTC) coverage because it picks up where collision insurance coverage drops off.  Of course, because OTC is additional coverage, your insurance rate will be a bit higher.

If your car is damaged due to theft or due to a flood or other natural incident, you may be covered under your comprehensive car insurance coverage.  You’ll need to review the specific policy information to find out what is covered and whether the additional premium is worth the additional coverage provided.

It’s worth noting that some lien holders require you to carry comprehensive insurance coverage during the term of your car loan.  This is to protect their investment and to ensure that you don’t continue to pay for a vehicle that has been stolen or damaged beyond repair due to a non-collision incident.

Add OTC to Your Rate Quote

Spartan Insurance offers comprehensive (OTC) coverage in some cases but you must select the OTC option and choose an appropriate deductible when going through the quote process.
